$10K Reward Offered After Man Shot, Killed in South Memphis

South Memphis, TN — Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting of a man in South Memphis on Friday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community as police intensify their investigation into the city’s latest act of gun violence.

The Memphis Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a shooting call around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Parkway and Florida Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene before the man was transported to Regional One Health, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Darius Fields, a resident of the South Memphis area. Family members say Fields was a father of two and known for his warm personality and dedication to his children. “He wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t deserve to die like this,” said his cousin, LaToya Miller. “Whoever did this took away a father, a brother, a son.”

Investigators believe Fields was walking home from a nearby convenience store when he was approached and shot. No suspects have been named at this time, and the motive remains unclear.

To help solve the case, CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County has announced a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction. They are urging anyone with tips—no matter how small—to come forward.

“We need the public’s help,” said Lt. Frank Garrett of the Memphis Police Department’s Homicide Division. “Someone out there knows something. This is not just a number on a crime report—this was a real person whose life was taken.”

Residents in the South Memphis community say the shooting has heightened concerns about safety in the area, where violent crime has continued to rise. According to data released earlier this year, Memphis remains one of the cities with the highest rates of homicide per capita in the nation.

“We’re tired of burying our young people,” said Pastor Henry Fields (no relation), who leads a nearby church. “We need more than just thoughts and prayers—we need action, we need justice, and we need to stop this cycle of violence.”

The Memphis Police Department says it has increased patrols in the area and is reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences. They also plan to hold a community meeting later this week to address concerns and offer resources for those affected by the recent violence.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and the $10,000 reward remains in place until an arrest is made.

As the investigation continues, Fields’ family is preparing for his funeral, scheduled for next weekend. They are also calling for justice—and for peace—in a community that has seen too many lives cut short.
