Italy’s Court Allows Two Mothers to Be Recognized as Parents
In a landmark ruling, an Italian court has decided that two women in a same-sex relationship can both be officially registered as mothers on a child’s birth certificate. This decision marks a significant step forward for LGBTQ+ family rights in Italy.
The case involved a couple who had a child through assisted reproduction abroad. Until now, Italian law only allowed one mother to be recognized legally. The court ruled that this denied the child full legal protection and failed to reflect the family’s true situation.
