Heartbreaking: Abbeville Police Department responds to fatal shooting and Abbeville man is dead …..

An Abbeville man is dead, and another person is injured after a suspect fired multiple shots into a vehicle that also had a toddler inside.
On Friday, April 18, at approximately 10:08 p.m., the Abbeville Police Department received several calls of shots fired around the 700 block of South Guegnon Street in Abbeville. Minutes later, the department received another call that someone had crashed into a utility pole in Landry’s Laundromat parking lot on Charity Street. Another call then came in advising of a shooting victim on Prairie Avenue.
Once officers arrived at Landry’s Laundromat, they located a tan 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe that had run up against the utility pole in the Southeast corner of the parking lot along Charity Street. Officers found Tavian Anthony Young, 20, of Abbeville, inside the vehicle. Young suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the right side of his body just below the armpit.
Once officers arrived at Prairie Avenue, they realized the shooting victim was a passenger in Young’s vehicle. She received a gunshot wound to her head and was transported to a local area hospital, where she is in stable condition. A third passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old toddler, was not injured. A family member later picked him up.
Officers with the Abbeville Police Department and Abbeville Fire Department placed Tavion Young on the ground and attempted CPR at the scene of the crash but were unable to get a response. Deputy Coroner Lane Abshire responded to the incident and pronounced Young dead at the scene. Vincent Funeral Home picked up the victim’s body.
After further investigation, officers learned that while the 2012 Chevy Tahoe was northbound on Guegnon Street, an unknown suspect/suspects fired multiple 223 rounds at the vehicle. One round struck Young in the side of his chest and the second victim was struck in the back of her head. The vehicle traveled Northbound on Guegnon Street and made a right turn heading east on Charity Street, and traveled across to Landry’s Laundromat, where he hit the utility pole.
This case is still actively under investigation.
