While playing with the Warriors in Paris, the dragons have a lot to think about.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Dragons will move a Super League game to Paris to play Wigan Warriors at the Stade Jean Bouin, home of Stade Français and Paris FC, in honor of the Catalans’ 20th anniversary in the league. The game will be a rematch of the Catalans Club’s most recent moved match, which took place at Camp Nou in 2019 and saw 31,555 spectators break the Super League regular season attendance record.
The Super League will thus return to Paris, where it all started in 1996 when Paris Saint-Germain hosted Sheffield Eagles at Stade Charléty. The league will also celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026. For supporters and sponsors, Wigan Warriors will offer a variety of ticket and travel packages; more information will be available soon.
“It is a great honor to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Super League in Paris, where it all began in 1996,” stated Bernard Guasch, president of the Catalan Dragons. For both French and English supporters, it will undoubtedly be an emotional moment as professional rugby league makes its comeback to our city. Additionally, we will commemorate our club’s 20th anniversary.
How far our sport and competition have come since the first PSG game at Stade Charléty on a wintry night in 1996. The Dragons are an indisputable force and an essential component of the Super League today. Over the past 20 years, we have demonstrated our tenacity and made numerous sacrifices. Moments like Wembley in 2007 and 2018, Barcelona in 2019, and Old Trafford in 2021 and 2023 have all been enchanting and unforgettable.
We have once again selected Wigan, the best club of all time, to present the finest of our sport to the Parisian public at Paris 2026, which will mark another significant milestone for our team. Like the Catalan Dragons, we hope this event will be lively, inviting, and celebratory, and I have no doubt that French rugby league will unite around it.
“I am both thrilled and delighted that our two famous Clubs will be showcasing the wonderful game of Rugby League in this mouth-watering and iconic match in Paris in June 2026,” said Professor Chris Brookes, chairman of the Wigan Warriors. “A lot of our supporters have been inquiring about the possibility of this match happening and are anxiously awaiting any updates. I’m confident that this announcement will be enthusiastically received and that it will also serve as a cue to rush the travel agencies!
The fixture’s confirmation is especially welcome, Brookes continued, as it strengthens the already remarkable bond between our clubs. The relationships between our teams, supporters, and the communities we serve are profound and strong in both Wigan and Perpignan. This is most likely due to the fact that our shared beliefs are based on the underdog mentality of succeeding in spite of all obstacles. Naturally, the epitome of this is our dear friend Bernard, Le President de Catalans.
In addition to being an incredible event for our players and supporters, seeing the “Cherry and Whites” and the “Sang et Or” perform in Paris will make a huge statement for our sport. Personally, I’m eager to “Apportez le Match!” “It’s a great honor to bring our wonderful sport back to Paris,” stated Kris Radlinski, the chief executive of the Warriors. I had the honor of playing for Wigan when they narrowly defeated Paris Saint-Germain in a historic event thirty years ago in June. Another historic event will be when our club returns to this famous city to play the Catalan Dragons.
“Playing a Super League match in our capital will be a special moment as Captain of the Dragons and the French national team,” stated Benjamin Garcia, captain of the Catalan Dragons. Having to play Wigan Warriors again in a rescheduled match will be extremely difficult. I’m hoping that rugby league supporters from all around France will travel to Paris to cheer us on because the atmosphere will be amazing. We compete for our entire sport at games like these, not just the Dragons.
“This match in Paris is a real milestone,” stated Christophe Levy, the Dragons’ commercial director. As a representative of our sport, I think it’s critical to visit the French capital and play at least once every 20 years. We have selected Stade Jean Bouin, a state-of-the-art rugby stadium situated in the center of Paris, sandwiched between Roland Garros and the Parc des Princes. “We want to demonstrate that rugby league is real, thriving, and capable of uniting behind a distinctive occasion. I am aware that the rugby league world will be watching Paris, and that this match has already generated a lot of interest among English supporters. For our club and our sport, the stakes are really high.
