Bad news: Newcastle United’s injury list and return schedule have completely expanded.
In the final two games of the 2024–25 Premier League season, Newcastle United may be missing a few key players. The Magpies, who defeated Chelsea 2-0 at St. James’ Park on Sunday, will now play Arsenal and Everton with the knowledge that they need only one victory to qualify for the Champions League.
Before hosting Everton on the last day of the season, they go to North London this weekend. Will Eddie Howe have to make do with what he has, or will he be welcoming any players back from injury?
Prior to missing Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea due to a calf injury, Trippier had started the team’s previous ten games across all competitions. Willock replaced Joelinton in the starting lineup against Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion, however he was forced to miss the Chelsea game due to a knee injury.
“We don’t think they’re big injuries,” Howe stated, “but there isn’t much time left before the season ends.” We would really like to see them get back in shape and able to contribute, but I’m not sure whether that’s feasible right now.
After recuperating from his most recent knee injury, Botman made his first start since February in the Chelsea match. Following the match, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe acknowledged that Botman had been experiencing knee pain before halftime, but he maintained that his substitution in the 55th minute was more tactical in nature. Eddie Howe said what? Howe stated: “He had a knee issue during the halftime break, which made him a little uncomfortable. It’s not serious, in my opinion. Tactically, I believed it would help us change, even though he was clearly fine to continue.
“He was icing a problem at half-time, so we hope he’s okay. With that in mind and the fact I felt we needed to change tactically, we made a change, brought Lewy [Miley] on.”
Joelinton has been dealing with a knee problem since February and has missed the previous three games. He saw a specialist last month. The 28-year-old just made a brief trip back to Brazil before receiving an injection in Barcelona. Although he acknowledges it is improbable, Howe hasn’t ruled out the midfielder returning before the season ends. Eddie Howe said what? “I saw Joe yesterday for the first time in a while,” Howe said in a statement on Friday. After receiving treatment abroad and briefly returning to Brazil, he has returned to Barcelona for another injection.
