According to a rumor, the regular season for college basketball will now consist of 32 games.

The college basketball regular season is expanding!

The regular-season limit has been 31 games for the last two decades but will now get a slight boost next year.

Norlander noted that college coaches hope this will lead to more nonconference games happening in the middle of conference play.

This also means a team that makes the national championship game can play as many as 41 games, so Kentucky fans will have to start printing off 41-0 shirts beginning next year.

It’s no secret that Mark Pope wants this type of expansion to happen, as he’s made the case for 40-game regular seasons on multiple occasions since becoming head coach of the Wildcats.

It’ll be interesting to see if this leads to another nonconference cupcake game or an additional marquee matchup for the Cats when the 2026-27 season opens.
