  • Taylor Jenkins has etched his name into Memphis Grizzlies history by surpassing Lionel Hollins to become the franchise’s all-time winningest head coach. On November 20, 2024, Jenkins secured his 215th victory with a 117–111 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, achieving this milestone in his sixth season at the helm.

A Historic Achievement

Jenkins’ journey to the top of the Grizzlies’ coaching ranks began in June 2019 when he was appointed head coach. Prior to his tenure in Memphis, he served as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, and Milwaukee Bucks. Under his leadership, the Grizzlies experienced significant growth, making three consecutive playoff appearances from 2021 to 2023 and achieving a franchise-record 56 wins during the 2021–22 season.

A Humble Leader

Following the historic win against the 76ers, Jenkins expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team. “It’s an unbelievable honor to be among the company of so many great coaches that have come before me,” he remarked. Guard Desmond Bane, who contributed 21 points in the victory, lauded Jenkins as “the best coach in Memphis Grizzlies history,” highlighting his humility and dedication.

A Sudden Departure

Despite his success, Jenkins was unexpectedly relieved of his duties as head coach on March 28, 2025, with nine games remaining in the regular season. At the time of his dismissal, the Grizzlies held a 44–29 record, placing them fifth in the Western Conference. The decision was made by General Manager Zach Kleiman, who acknowledged Jenkins’ contributions but deemed the move necessary for the team’s future.

Looking Ahead

Jenkins’ tenure with the Grizzlies left an indelible mark on the franchise. His leadership and achievements have set a high standard for future coaches. As the Grizzlies continue their journey, the legacy of Taylor Jenkins will undoubtedly influence the team’s culture and aspirations.
