2 killed, child involved in rollover crash near Walterboro

Two people are dead following a single-vehicle crash near Walterboro, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

 

The driver of a 1999 Ford Mustang was headed northbound on Hiers Corner Road Monday evening when, shortly after 6 p.m., the car left the left side of the roadway near Linear Lane, troopers say

.The vehicle then traveled across both lanes and left the right side of the roadway into a ditch.

Two occupants were ejected from the vehicle after the car flipped over.

 

The vehicle rested on top of the occupants. Bystanders went to the scene to try to lift the car off but were unsuccessful.

 

Troopers reported the two adult occupants were not wearing seatbelts, but a 6-year-old boy wore one. The child climbed out of the vehicle with minor injuries.

 

The driver and front passenger died as a result of the collision, according to SCHP. A juvenile passenger was transported by EMS to Colleton Medical Center.

 

SCHP is continuing its investigation of the crash.
